The Universityof Ruse“Angel Kanchev” (UR) was established in 1945 as the first national higher technical school outside the capital of Bulgaria. At present the university trains more than10 000 full-time and part-time students, 180 PhD students and about 500 international students from 17 countries.The academic staff consists of 480 professors, associate professors and assistant professors, assisted by around 350 support staff members.The UR carries out education in 8 faculties:

Faculty of Agricultural and Industrial Engineering;

Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering;

Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Automation;

Faculty of Transport Engineering;

Faculty of Natural Sciences and Education;

Faculty of Business and Management;

Faculty of Law;

Faculty of Public Health and Health  Care;

Two branch faculties in the towns of Silistra and Razgrad.

In terms of international cooperation the University of Ruse ranks among the top five Bulgarian universities. The UR is active under lots of programs, both for research and technological development and educational ones. Examples of popular European programmes among the university academic staff are FP5, FP6, FP7, CEEPUS, NATO Scientific Program “Science for peace”, DAAD, PHARE, Human Resources Development Program, CBC, LLP (Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Commenius). The University of Ruse annually sends on training to foreign universities and companies more than 130 students and PhDs.
